WHY URBAN SKETCHING? (I)

Have you ever take a photo some place you are visiting? Of course you have! You want to keep the memory of what you are seen. But does the photo match what you are "seen". I think not. The photo takes it all. Too much and too little. To much of the scene for you to process and too little of what you want to focus on. That's one reason I think urban sketching is much better than take pictures. You draw what you want to keep memory of. When you come back to your sketch there is something "of yourself" there. Do you can find something "of yourself" when you come back to the photo.

When you draw you decide. You express what you like. That's the beauty of drawing.

Sketching a scene in a place you like is an enriching experience. You don't need too much time to do a sketch you will be proud of. You only need to know how to do it.

I'm actually considering ways to help people living in Ennis or nearby learn to draw. If you are interested, please contact me! 📧
